Jaigarh Fort also called the 'Victory Fort' is located at a distance of 15 kms from Jaipur. Named after Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, the fort is perched on a cliff and is surrounded by huge battlements with inside walkways. Jaigarh Fort was built in 1726 to bolster up the defense of Amer. One of the most spectacular forts of Jaipur, the Jaigarh Fort is only one of the few fortress and military structures of medieval India that are well preserved. Once used as the treasury of the royal family of Jaipur, the Jaigarh Fort now offers breathtaking views of the Jaipur town and the Amber Fort.
Jaigarh Fort houses several palaces, granary, well-planned cannon foundry, several temples and a tall tower. The major attraction of this fort is the Jaivana, which is the world's largest cannon on wheels. Built in the year 1720, the cannon Jaivana is situated atop a tower, but it was never used. Many say that Jaivana was test-fired once by Jai Singh II and the cannon ball fell about 35 kms on a village. The impact was so great that a lake formed at the spot and many houses collapsed.

The Dungar Darwaza in the south is the main entrance to the fort. As you will enter through this gate you will get a feel of Rajputana romance. The Awani Darwaza in the east is another entrance to the fort.
The Palace ComplexThe Palace complex was built by various rulers over a period of two centuries. Some noteworthy structures within the palace complex are Diwan-E-Aam (Hall of Public Audience), Khilbat Niwas (Commanders' Meeting Hall), the open pillared hall and the Shubhat Niwas (the Meeting hall of Warriors).
