Sawai Jai Singh's Chandra Mahal (Moon Palace), commonly known as the City Palace is located in the heart of the old Jaipur city. The outer wall of this palace was built by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II of the Kachhwaha clan of Rajputs, but later additions have been made by many of his successors. The City Palace is a delighting blend of Mughal and traditional Rajathani architecture. The magnificent palace occupies one seventh of the total area of the old city of Jaipur. The Palace complex has been divided into a series of courtyards, lush gardens and imposing buildings. The city palace was the official residence of the royal family and they still live in a portion of this palace. The outer courtyard and the ground floor halls have been converted into a museum that is open to public.



Mubarak Mahal
Built by Maharaja Sawai Madho Singh II, Mubarak Mahal is the first building in the city palace. The double storeyed building made of white marble is simply marvellous. Mubarak Mahal was the guest house of the Maharajas but now here is the office of the Secretariat. In the first floor of the palace is the royal member's textile museum.

Diwan-I-Khaas
Located close to the Mubarak Mahal, Diwan-I-Khaas (Hall of Private Audiences) was the personal sitting room of the Maharaja. The Hall has a marble gallery. There is also a clock tower.

Diwan-I-Aam
Diwan-I-Aam or Hall of Public Audiences was built by Maharaj Sawai Pratap Singh. Known for its excellent architectural work, this hall has priceless collection of paintings. Diwan-I-Aam is also known for its intricate decorations and manuscripts in Persian and Sanskrit. The painting of Man Singh has some uniqueness as it appears that he is looking into your face. There is another unique painting of 9 children and 9 women in posture of elephant.

Chandra Mahal
Chandra Mahal is a seven storeyed building and made of pure white marble. Each of the seven storey of the palace has different name and appreciated by the visitors for their architectural grandeur. Chandra Mahal is adorned with wonderful paintings, floral decorations, mirror walls and ceilings. Pritam Niwas is the first floor of the Chandra Mahal and the uppermost storey is called the Mukut Mahal. In the second and third floor is the Sukh Niwas, above it is the Ranga Niwas and Sobha Niwas. Chandra Mahal provides the spectacular views of the gardens and the Jaipur city.

City Palace Museum
The City Palace museum or the Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II Museum is situated in the first and ground floor of the Chandra Mahal. The museum has a huge collection of rare manuscripts, Mughal and Rajasthani miniatures, Mughal Carpets, costumes and textiles, arms and weapons, royal parapernalia and enamelware. The paintings include miniatures in the Rajasthani, Mughal and Persian Schools. The armoury has a collection of guns and swords dating back to 15th century and many ingenious and tricky weapons of the Rajput warriors.

Badal Mahal
Badal Mahal is located opposite to the Chandra Mahal.

Govind Devji Temple
The Govind Devji Temple lies in between the Chandra Mahal and the Badal Mahal. Dedicated to Lord Krishna, this temple is most famous temple in Jaipur and attracts devotees from all over the country.
